Infographics and jQuery

We’ve had some fun this week with infographics and jQuery. There is always more you can do to make your marketing and design more appealing. Yesterday we explored the world of infographics as one such strategy. You can get very clever with infographics, and a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. If you have important information to deliver that could convert your reader, why not deliver it as interesting and engaging eye candy? This is one example of how good design can affect conversion. If you can get a reader to stop and give what you’re saying more attention, then you definitely have a leg up over boring lines of text that will be passed by without a thought. My project for the day was an infographic conveying the steps to meditation and mindfulness. A more serious topic that turned into lively and colorful photoshop art!

Today we learned the basics of jQuery - a library or framework for javascript. jQuery makes writing and effecting javascript easier. jQuery is often behind animated effects, or effects of movement or motion. For example, sliders, toggle effects, moving animated objects, fading in and out - these could all be achieved with jQuery. WordPress comes with jQuery installed, and the more you know about it, the more you can customize the scripts. We had a basic introduction, and it’s obviously a tool that can be taken to extremes to produce some pretty amazing design. As long as you’re aware of the “why” behind the what and how of design, it will work in sync with good back-end production to steer the project in the right direction.
